The Waipu Caledonian Society is proud to announce that the reintroduction of a fiddling competition was a resounding success and we are pleased to announce it as a vibrant part of the events at the Waipu Games for many years to come.
Iain Fraser is a Scottish fiddler of renown. He is an experienced fiddle tutor at home in the Scottish Borders and Highlands as well as regularly teaching at festivals in America, Canada and Europe. He taught at NZ’s own SHISSF Scottish fiddle school in Upper Hutt in 2004. He is a highly regarded leader of music workshops specialising in acoustic roots based genres.
He is also a tutor at Scotland’s Royal Conservatoire and for several years developed projects in Scotland to encourage young people to experience and participate in traditional music. He was also in charge of the delivery of instrumental music to schools in the Scottish Borders.
He is familiar with all aspects of performing music including being the Managing Director of a record label Culbirnie records and has recorded several albums and published a collection of Scottish Tunes with CD for home learning.
